Global law firm Hogan Lovells Cadwalader announced yesterday that Paul Guan has joined the firm’s Corporate & Finance practice as a Partner in Hong Kong. He joins from Kirkland & Ellis.
Paul’s arrival is a significant investment in Hogan Lovells Cadwalader’s private capital and M&A platform in Asia Pacific. His appointment deepens the firm’s Greater China transactional capabilities and enhances the role of its Hong Kong office as a gateway between Greater China, international capital and investment opportunities across the region.
James Doyle, Global Head of the Corporate & Finance practice, commented: “Paul’s arrival is a significant strategic investment in our global Corporate & Finance platform. Private capital is a priority for our firm, and Asia Pacific continues to be a critical market for clients pursuing complex cross-border investments and transactions. Paul’s market-leading reputation, sophisticated transactional practice and relationships with major sponsors and institutional investors will further strengthen our ability to support clients as they deploy capital across Asia and internationally.”
Paul is a highly regarded private capital and M&A lawyer with extensive experience advising private equity sponsors, institutional investors and financial institutions on complex transactions across Asia Pacific with a particular focus on the real estate industry. His practice spans inbound and outbound investments, acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures, minority and control investments, asset and property management arrangements, real estate financings, and infrastructure, with a particular focus on data centers.
Jacky Scanlan-Dyas, Corporate & Finance Practice Group regional head for Asia Pacific, commented: “We are building greater depth across our Asia Pacific Corporate & Finance platform, particularly in private equity and M&A, while continuing to strengthen our capabilities in the real estate and private capital industry sectors. Paul’s practice sits at the intersection of those capabilities and responds directly to the increasingly sophisticated needs of clients investing into, within and out of Asia Pacific. His arrival also strengthens our Greater China offering and creates significant opportunities for collaboration across our regional and global network.”
Owen Chan, Regional Managing Partner, APAC, added: “Greater China is an important part of our Asia Pacific strategy, and Hong Kong plays a critical role in connecting clients and capital across the region and with global markets. Following our transformational combination, Paul’s arrival demonstrates our continued commitment to investing in premium talent across Asia Pacific and building an integrated platform that can support clients on their most sophisticated cross-border opportunities.”
Paul commented: “Hogan Lovells Cadwalader offers a compelling combination of deep roots in Asia Pacific, sophisticated regional capabilities and an expanded global platform. I look forward to working with colleagues across the firm to help clients navigate complex real estate, private capital and M&A transactions in Greater China and internationally. I am also delighted to reunite with my former partners, David Wang in Shanghai and Meka Meng in Beijing, with whom I have worked closely for more than a decade, as we build a market-leading private equity and M&A practice in the region.”
Paul’s arrival builds on the firm’s sustained strategic investment across Asia Pacific, which is focused on strengthening our capabilities in key markets and areas of growing client demand.
