Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology and life sciences law firm, has welcomed Katie Chung as a Partner in its Litigation Department in Singapore, advancing the Firm’s strategy to build a premier international arbitration practice anchored in London, New York, Washington D.C, Houston, Dubai and Singapore.
Chung brings close to 20 years of experience advising and representing clients in high-stakes, Asia-related international arbitrations conducted under all major arbitration rules. Her practice focuses on complex, high-value disputes spanning multiple jurisdictions and key industries, including energy, aviation, financial services, infrastructure, technology and telecoms.
In addition to her counsel work, Chung regularly sits as an arbitrator in ICC, SIAC, and HKIAC arbitrations seated in Singapore and Hong Kong. Her tribunal experience informs her advocacy in sophisticated international matters.
With Chung’s hire, Baker Botts further enhances its international footprint, building on the recent addition of Josh Cole in Singapore and a record number of partner appointments across its global offices, reinforcing the Firm’s reputation as a destination for top legal talent and its rising influence in key markets worldwide.
“Singapore is one of the world’s premier arbitration centers and Asia is an important market for the Firm,” said Danny David, Managing Partner of Baker Botts. “Katie adds meaningful depth to our international disputes platform and strengthens our ability to serve clients across Asia. This is a deliberate step in the continued expansion of our global capabilities, and building our on-the-ground arbitration presence is both timely and strategic.”
“We are building leading capability in Singapore across energy, digital infrastructure and now arbitration – aligning perfectly with Singapore’s status across these domains” said Richard Guit, Partner in Charge of Baker Botts’ Singapore office. “Katie’s deep experience across key industries and her standing in the arbitration community is the perfect addition. She delivers results for clients navigating the most sophisticated cross-border disputes in Asia and globally.”
Chung is a Delegate of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR, a member of the AAA-ICDR Singapore Committee, and serves on the executive committee of the Asia-Pacific Forum for International Arbitration. She also contributes to the IBA Task Force on “The Nationality of the Arbitrator as a Proxy for Independence and Impartiality” and is a member of the Singapore Branch of the International Law Association. A regular speaker and author on international arbitration, she is widely recognized for her leadership and expertise in the field.
“Baker Botts’ continued investment in Asia makes this an exciting time to join the Firm,” said Chung. “Its global disputes platform, industry depth, and collaborative approach position it well to handle complex international matters. I look forward to further developing the arbitration practice in Singapore and across the region.”
