McDermott along with Kirkland Ellis advised on Minority Investments by Arctos Partners and Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) in Monumental Sports & Entertainment.

McDermott, Will & Schulte represented Monumental Sports & Entertainment in connection with the entry of Arctos Partners as a minority investor and the increase in equity stake by the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA). QIA had initially invested in MSE in 2023, and its increased investment reflects its continued focus on long-term, high-value strategic assets.

The McDermott team was led by Tom Conaghan with invaluable assistance from Greg Berson and Eric Cunningham as well as Scott Bowman and Will Rush. Andrew Granek advised on tax matters.

Kirkland & Ellis advised Arctos Partners on its acquisition of a minority interest in MSE. Arctos is the only private investment firm approved to hold ownership interests across all five major North American professional sports leagues.

MSE owns and operates the Washington Capitals (NHL), Washington Wizards (NBA), Washington Mystics (WNBA), Capital City Go-Go (NBA G League), and Wizards District Gaming (NBA 2K League), along with local media platform Monumental Sports Network (MNMT) and several other high-impact investments in sports and entertainment. MSE also operates Capital One Arena in downtown Washington, D.C. and is leading an $800 million+ transformation of the arena and the adjacent downtown sports and entertainment district as part of a public-private partnership with the city.
