Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP announced that Greg Arutiunov has joined the firm as a Tax Partner in its New York office. Expanding the firm’s energy & infrastructure capabilities, particularly in the energy transition space, Greg brings deep experience advising on the tax aspects of energy project development and financing.
Greg’s practice focuses on a broad range of federal income tax matters, particularly energy transactions and financings, including project finance, tax equity transactions, tax credit transfers, M&A and capital markets transactions. He also has significant experience advising on private equity fund formations and LP-side investments, as well as real estate joint ventures, REIT structures, and investments by non-U.S. and tax-exempt investors. Drawing on his experience in-house at NextEra Energy, the largest electric power and energy infrastructure company in North America, Greg brings a commercial perspective to advising clients on complex transactions.
“The demand for sophisticated tax counsel continues to grow for renewable energy and energy transition transactions, from project development and financing to M&A and capital markets activities,” said Akin co-chair Abid Qureshi. “With Greg’s arrival, we continue to expand a market-leading team capable of counseling clients across every stage of energy and infrastructure projects.”
“Recent legislative changes have added new layers of complexity to the tax considerations central to renewable energy and energy transition projects,” said corporate practice co‑head Zachary Wittenberg. “Greg’s experience advising on a broad array of energy financings and transactions, combined with his firsthand perspective from one of the nation’s leading renewable energy developers, furthers our ability to help clients navigate these evolving challenges.”
“Akin’s tax, corporate and regulatory capabilities make it a standout platform for energy and infrastructure transactions,” said Greg on his move to the firm. “I’m excited to join Akin’s market-leading team and help clients structure and execute complex investments and financings.”
Greg is the latest addition to the firm’s comprehensive energy & infrastructure platform, which continues to expand globally across key markets. Recent additions include energy tax partner Richard Wright and projects & energy transition partners Ron Erlichman and Nick Atwood in New York; and energy & infrastructure partners Mitch Holzrichter and Nick Vallorano in Chicago.
