Hyderabad Metro Rail has entered into a transaction to acquire 100% of the equity share capital of L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) from Larsen & Toubro for INR 1,461.47 crore.
The acquisition marks a significant development in India’s urban infrastructure sector and represents one of the few instances of a large-scale urban transport concession transitioning from private sector control to complete public ownership in India.
The transaction is expected to facilitate the strategic alignment of Phase-I operations of the Hyderabad Metro with the proposed Phase-II expansion, which envisages over 160 kilometres of additional metro corridors across the Hyderabad metropolitan region.
