Vyapak Desai, who was head of the International Disputes & Investigations Practice at Nishith Desai Associates (NDA) quit the firm last month after two decades to start his own chamber practice. In a brief conversation with the Deal Matter, he told us about his plans –
Q 1. Tell us about your new venture/firm.
VD: I’ve set up my own chamber practice focusing on high-quality written and oral advocacy, including pre-litigation strategy. My vision is to develop the practice into an international chamber with experienced counsels in various areas of law providing legal advocacy for domestic and cross-border disputes for Indian and global clients. I also aim to contribute to policy-making for better, wider, and quicker access to justice.
Q 2. You were with NDA for two decades. What thoughts went into making this decision, and how difficult was it?
VD: It was very difficult! NDA provided the right opportunity and support to launch and develop Int’l Disputes and Investigations (including white-collar crime) Practice. I wanted to experience a new dimension of legal practice compared to a law firm.

Q 4. Is your offering a combination of a chamber practice and a law firm?
VD: No. It will be a standalone chamber practice.
