American multinational law firm Akin, Gump, Staruss, Hauer & Feld LLP announced recently that Megan Spelman has rejoined the firm as a Corporate Partner in New York, further strengthening its private equity and M&A team. Megan’s return deepens the firm’s M&A and private capital bench, bolstering the private capital team for M&A transactions and equity investments.
Megan advises private equity sponsors, with a particular focus on the middle market, and their portfolio companies on M&A transactions and general corporate matters across the transaction lifecycle, including leveraged buyouts (LBOs), add-ons, take-privates and other equity investments. Her work is primarily in transactions across infrastructure, health care, technology, industrials, franchise, financial services and consumer products.
“Megan’s return reflects Akin’s continued investment in its private equity offering,” said Akin co-chair Abid Qureshi. “As private equity investment strategies continue to evolve, clients are seeking integrated advice across M&A and capital structure analysis, and Megan’s experience aligns closely with that demand.”
“Megan’s experience working with sponsors and portfolio companies navigating complex transactions further enhances our ability to support clients across the full transaction lifecycle,” said corporate practice co-head Zachary Wittenberg.
“The strength of Akin’s integrated platform is highly compelling, bringing together M&A and structured capital capabilities that bolster the new age of private equity practices,” said Megan on her move to the firm. “I’m thrilled to return to Akin and support clients’ evolving needs as private equity investment strategies continue to evolve.”
Megan’s return builds on a series of recent additions across the firm’s global private equity platform, including the return of United States private equity head Gerald Brant and partners Jeffrey Kochian and Brittany Harrison in New York, along with the arrival of Jonathon Hamil in London and Dilen Kumar in Dallas.
