Baker McKenzie Adds Ricardo Perera As A Partner In Mexico City

Baker McKenzie has announced the arrival of Ricardo Perera as a Partner in its Mexico City office. Ricardo is a highly regarded tax disputes attorney with more than 15 years of experience providing advisory services in contentious administrative matters to national and international companies, including those in the hotel, automotive, and technology industries.

Ricardo focuses his practice on administrative and tax controversy matters, including tax refund procedures before federal and local tax authorities, and has a proven track record in litigation before tribunals, including the Supreme Court in Mexico, as well as procedures before Mexico’s tax ombudsman PRODECON. He previously worked for specialized firms in Mexico and co-founded a firm where he led the tax litigation practice.

“We are thrilled to have Ricardo on our team, further expanding our ability to service our clients with the care and precision they deserve,” said Maria Eberle, Americas Chair of Baker McKenzie’s Global Tax Practice. “Ricardo’s deep experience will strengthen our ability to help clients navigate an increasingly complex and active tax disputes landscape.”

Tax disputes in Mexico are expected to remain active as authorities intensify scrutiny of complex transactions, cross-border structures and compliance positions. In this environment, businesses will need to prioritize early risk assessment, robust documentation and coordinated dispute strategies to navigate audits and litigation effectively.

Pepe Larroque, Baker McKenzie’s Managing Partner in Mexico, added: “Ricardo’s extensive experience in tax disputes will enhance our ability to meet growing client demand in this critical area. He will be a tremendous addition to our team, and we look forward to working with him.”

Baker McKenzie’s global Tax Controversy team advises clients on complex tax audits, disputes and litigation across jurisdictions. The team supports multinational businesses at all stages of the controversy lifecycle, including audits, administrative appeals and court proceedings, drawing on an integrated group of practitioners across more than 40 countries. The practice also regularly handles matters involving interactions with tax authorities and government agencies, including high-stakes and sensitive disputes.

“I am excited to join Baker McKenzie’s Tax Controversy team and to help clients navigate the increasingly complex environment of tax litigation in Mexico through practical, coordinated strategies. I look forward to getting to work with some of the best professionals in the field.” Said Ricardo.

Ricardo earned his law degree from the Universidad Latinoamericana in 2010, his Master of Law in Taxation from the Universidad Panamericana in 2015 and completed the Essentials of US Tax Law Program at New York University School of Law in 2017. He is currently pursuing his MBA from IPADE Business School.
