Amazon.com, Inc. Has entered into a definitive merger agreement to acquire Globalstar, Inc., a leading mobile satellite services (MSS) operator and provider of non-geostationary orbit satellite communications infrastructure. The transaction is intended to strengthen Amazon Leo’s direct-to-device (D2D) satellite capabilities and expand connectivity services beyond the reach of terrestrial networks.
As part of its broader long-term space-based connectivity strategy, Amazon also plans to collaborate with mobile network operators and other partners to extend global coverage and deliver enhanced satellite-enabled services, including emergency and connectivity features for consumer devices.
