Scott Tan Joins Rajah & Tann As A Partner In Singapore 

Rajah & Tann Singapore has added Scott Tan as a Partner in their International Arbitration practice.

Before joining the firm, Scott worked at the Attorney-General’s Chambers of Singapore, where he was the Director of the International Disputes Practice Group in the International Affairs Division leading on matters relating to Singapore’s international dispute resolution practice and policy, including proceedings before the International Court of Justice, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, the World Trade Organization dispute settlement system, and investment arbitration tribunals.

On Scott’s appointment, Managing Partner Ng Kim Beng said:

An experienced public international law practitioner, Scott has represented Singapore in various bilateral and multilateral trade, investment, and diplomatic negotiations and served as a delegate to the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. His expertise spans international trade and investment law, the law of the sea, sovereign immunity, state responsibility, and the law of armed conflict.

Before his international law career, Scott served at the Supreme Court of Singapore where he presided over a broad range of civil hearings as an Assistant Registrar and managed proceedings before the Court of Appeal and the Singapore International Commercial Court. He was also the Special Assistant to Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon and clerked for the Chief Justice and the Judges of the Court of Appeal and the Singapore High Court.

Scott studied law at the University of Oxford, where he earned a BA in Jurisprudence (First Class Honours), and Harvard Law School, where he earned an LL.M.

Scott’s appointment further enhances Rajah & Tann Singapore’s ability to advise clients on high-value and strategically significant disputes, including matters involving international arbitration, treaty and investment issues, and public international law considerations.
