Nishimura & Asahi and MinterEllison advised Idemitsu on investment in MidOcean Energy.
Idemitsu Kosan has made an investment in MidOcean Energy, marking Idemitsu’s first full-scale entry into the LNG sector and supporting its strategy to secure long-term energy supply while enabling future growth opportunities in LNG.
MidOcean Energy is an LNG company formed in 2023 and managed by EIG Global Energy Partners, with LNG interests across Peru, Canada and Australia, including Queensland Curtis LNG, Gorgon LNG, and Pluto LNG.
Nishimura & Asahi acted as global main counsel and lead Japanese counsel to Idemitsu Kosan on the transaction.
The team was spearheaded by Tokyo-based partners Yuki Oi, Takeshi Nemoto, and Toshihito Yasaki.
MinterEllison advised Idemitsu Kosan on all Australian legal aspects of the transaction.
The team was led by Partners Geread Dooley, and David Perks, with specialist input from the firm’s Environment and Planning, Real Estate, Banking and Finance, Dispute Resolution, FIRB and Competition teams.
